ERASMUS step by step

To start planning your Erasmus exchange period at IBS, first you must contact the Erasmus co-ordinator in your Home Institution, who has to nominate you officially.

At IBS the teaching language is English. For this reason advanced English language skills are the number one condition of acceptance for Erasmus studies. Applicants whose mother tongue is not English must complete the IBS’s own English language test upon arrival. Those students who hold any of the following certificates, are exempt from taking the IBS English language test:

  • a minimum score of 6.0 points in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test (including a minimum of 6.0 for both the reading and writing component)
  • 550 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test (213 in the computerised version)

After your nomination you will receive from us

  • the application form to IBS
  • the list of modules running and their brief descriptions
  • the application form to the Residence Hall (if you wish to be accommodated there).

These documents must be returned electronically to Etelka Dombora at edombora@ibs-b.hu .

Application deadlines:

  • for the first semester (starting in September): May 15th
  • for the second semester (starting in February): October 15th

Learning agreements: Once you have selected the subjects you wish to follow, you have to fill in the learning agreement and send it back by mail or fax – duly signed by yourself and the responsible coordinators at your institution. It is very important we receive your learning agreement no later than 15 July (1st semester); 15 December (2nd semester). Please note that the timetable may influence the accessibility of the chosen subjects, therefore the final confirmation of the learning agreement by IBS can only happen in mid-September / mid-February.

If you wish to stay at the Residence Hall, please also fill in the application for accommodation and return it to Zsuzsa GYÖRGY: zsgyorgy@ibs-b.hu . Questions concerning accommodation should be e-mailed to this address. More information about the Residence Hall here: Residence Hall

When you arrive in Budapest you should check in at the IBS Student Centre (Room 203) as soon as possible.

After your check-in, you will receive

  • your timetable for the semester;
  • a user ID for the IBS computer system (free Wi-Fi is available for students on the premises of IBS);
  • a temporary student card ensuring cheap public transport (price: 600 HUF; 2 passport size photos are needed); note: this temporary card is valid for 60 days, after that it must be renewed.

You are required to pay for your printing at IBS. This can be arranged at the Cash Office (Room 208) prior to printing; also there you can buy a photo-copy card.

The library is free for all students. Details here:  Library

IBS operates an Intranet website which provides all information needed for your studies. All students have access to the Intranet.

The schedule for the examinations is published one month before the examinations start. Students have to sign up for the exams using the electronic student database and registration system called Neptun. No exams can be taken outside the specified examination times. In each subject two exam dates are provided (students who do not show up for the first exam or fail the first exam can take or retake it in the second round). To attempt an exam students must have a valid coursework mark in the given subject (if the coursework mark is part of the assessment).

At the end of your studies the transcript of your academic results will be sent to your co-ordinator in your Home Institution.

I am a student from Austria (FH Eisenstadt) and I was from September 2009 till January 2010 for one semester at the IBS for an Erasmus exchange. I really enjoyed studying there, I met lots of people from all over the world and I really liked the organisation of the IBS.

First of all, I really want to say that this Erasmus was an unbelievable experience which combined a school environment with a totally new context. This new context included new friends, new city, new flat, … all together gave me the opportunity to learn many things about myself.

I will start this report with a brief conclusion before going into detail. Before I made this undertaking to come to Hungary I had certain expectations. These expectations were based on the information I got from the internet and from some students who had studied at the IBS.

I particularly enjoyed the wide and interesting range of courses proposed by IBS, it was difficult for me to choose but I was happy with my selection. As IBS is an international school, I met different cultures and it was very worthwhile at a personal point and for my future career.
